Default Diesel newbie: inputs on purchase

Hello everyone,
Have owned gas trucks all my life but I'm looking at a diesel. It's a 2005 Ford F250 XLT super cab, SB, 78,000 miles, auto tranny. New tires, brakes. Has SCT tuner with professionally installed intake and exhaust system, either 3" or 4", not sure. Price is great I think. Can pick up the truck for $18,575. I don't know if the head bolts have been replaced or EGR delete is done. My reservations are probably due to reading so many negative threads online about 6.0L PS problems. What's your opinion on this truck? Thanks for any inputs!

Nothing wrong with a good old 6.0 PSD. Like you said headstuds if running lots of boost and EGR is only issues.

I'd be very worried about that tuner being ran on a stock tranny though. They go very easily especially when beaten.

thats not true at all the tranny behind the 6.0s have been known to handle over 500 horse in stock form being used in drag trucks and sled pullers. as far as price it about average for southern indiana and it dont sound like a bad deal

Are you kidding me? The trannies in the 7.3's and 6.'s (autos anyhow) wont handle a whole lot more power than stock. And DEFINENTLY not for pulling sled.

You must be the one joking because the 7.3 and 6.0 dont even run the same auto. If you want proof look at the july09 issue of dp mag

I know they dont but ANY automatic transmission offered in a diesel pickup isn't going to handle much more than stock power. The trans themselves are tough.. but the valve bodies, torque convertors and other random parts aren't gonna hold up to anything. Even the allison sucks when turned up because it detects slippage an goes into limp home mode.

This is part of turning one up. You make more power tranny lets go you grade tranny rear end lets go you fix rear end now everything can handle more power so you turn the engine up and start the whole cycle over again.

I don't think it really matters limp or limp home. I usually just call it "this piece of s**t" I can't believe it did that".
