A 2005 common-rail and a 2009 common rail vs a 199x 12v is a totally different animal.

regardless of what truck you go with there are going to be problems there always is, personally i'd get the cummins cause it's a superior engine and a decent chassis whereas the service truck may have been maintained it also means that whoever was responsible for driving it didn't care about it, i see how some of those guys treat their rigs and it's atrocious how they floor em and drive like maniacs and get the turbo's scolding hot then just get to where they're going and slam em off

the answer to why people put dont put a powerstroke in a dodge is dodge is a ugly truck and are not worth $300 in scrap ford has a better axels and better looking truck that is why people put cummins in a ford but why people rather have cummins over a powerstroke i guess know body will ever fig that out

because the cummins is far superior to the powerstroke no matter how you look at it, better engine design, better fuel economy on average, easier to work on, the list goes on for days so i guess i'm nobody and i figured it out

Thats not true. My bone stock 7.3 with a tymar, pinched wg, and straight pipe would get 20mpg city and about the same or a bit less highway (depends on speed).

My 380hp 800lb/ft 12v would get 22city and 26 highway.

Both of these trucks were straight drive (6spd psd, 5spd 12v).

As far as auto's, you'll almost NEVER see a stock or even modded auto 4x4 psd getting better than 14-16mpg city and 18ish highway. You REGULARLY see auto 4x4 cummins getting 18-19mpg city and 20-21mpg highway.

And mod that duracrap and that allison is just as shitty as any of the other 2's trannies.

i have a 93 idi, a 96psd and a 91 12v cummins. the 93 5spd idi keeps right up with the stock automatic 96 psd and the 93 only has the pump turned up a little bit. my 5spd cummins leaves them both in the dust and it only has a shaved fuel pin.

Holy crap this opened Pandora's box! Maybe next we could debate what color truck is better? The fact is both these engines are incredibly good engines. We might as well through the Duramax and my junk 6.5 in on this one. Say what you want about them I don't care I drive the thing to work every day and it gives me no problem. So I guess in the end to each is his own. Buy the one you like and never look back. Trying to get some one else to tell you which one to buy is like someone telling you what color to get it in. Only you know what you need or expect in a truck. Each one of them have there highs and lows. The Cummins is a torque monster that will pull anything hooked to it but loses on the every day driving comfort. The power stroke splits the difference. The Duramax kicks the crap out of both of them.(Sorry had to through that in there I am a Chevy guy) . And my poor old 6.5 go's down the road real good.
