Yeah I understand what you mean, but I can have a mech, check everything to see how it is, what are the common problems with ford and dodges and which is less common to have problems because the thing is I want a really good engine and tranny ect. So it won't break down on me and a pretty good lookin truck and interior and by looks I like how ford looks so I'm just trying to decide,

Do you want to add performace to it later on or just straight pipe it and drive around?
With 13000 to spend I am pretty sure if you check over the truck a lot you will not have problems for many miles

Yeah, all I pretty much want to do with it is mostly just drive around daily, that's why I would like a truck with good mpg in city, and reliable all around

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

So which one would be best for just driving and cruising around? I know any is good for that but which one breaks down less and has the best mpg that's my main question I'm looking for I love the looks of the fords but it all comes down to mpg and reliability

Not trying to be rude but your over thinking it way too much. Do some more research and see what you really like. There are Dodge, Ford, and Chevy/GMC. Then if you get into more detail they have different engines depending on the year and how the fuel is injected, the axles in them, the transmission, all that differs depending on the year. They all have their own highlights and faults. No matter what you get you will have problems. Thats just the way it is. Decide which one you like the most and then go from there. The best way to decide is to drive each type at different years when the engines changed or when the transmissions changed and get a feel for each truck. I am a Cummins guy and would drive anything with a Cummins engine. I dont discriminate against body styles and such. My advice to you is do as much research you can on each brand and the internals. Some trucks have serious flaws and some rarely have any. For instance the Ford 6.0 Powerstroke has a lot of problems but that doesnt mean its not a good truck. They run like beasts and are awesome trucks but if you want to stay low on maintenance I wouldnt suggest one. Of course if you want one then get one and dont listen to anyone else because your the one thats going to be driving it and all that matters is that you like it. The Cummins is great but the second gen 24v has a flaw with the VP44 injection pump but if properly cared for it can be controlled. Dodge is probably going to give you the best fuel milage. Don't knock Chevy though. They are good trucks too! They have injector problems on some years but that can be fixed and take care of your truck. They will get the next best milage for your buck after Cummins. Ford gets the worst gas milage unless you have lots of money to improve the engine and Fords seem to be the most expensive to bomb but they are awesome trucks. In reality it depends on you budget and what you like. One is not more maintenance free than the other. Read more about the engines and stuff to see what you like. Its a process of trial and error.

How much would it be to change the injection pump to the older one of the 12v? I think im going to go with the Dodge over the Ford, i think.. because of the better fuel eco., There isnt going to have more expense then the other right? as in lifetime repairs?

Ok so here it is. It is all in how the truck is treated. If you thrash your truck day in and day out it will have problems. People say the 6.0 is a bad engine but there are people out there that have absolutely no problems with them. It really is your decision. If you are going to get a Ford I would recommend a 7.3L truck but like stated earlier check out the suspension. because the TTB front end on the mid-late 90s Fords are not very good for a lot of people. a 7.3 gets pretty good mileage and a 5.9 cummins gets pretty good mileage. I would probably say the cummins has a little better mileage but not that much. The Ford, by far, IMO has a much better interior but again thats personal preference.

Like stated previously, just drive a few and see what you like. Then buy one and bomb it. ha

oh and back to price. if you are going to bomb the truck you might want to get a cummins because it is expensive to bomb a powerstroke.
