too LB7 or not too LB7 ?

i dont want to sound dumb i have had my cummins for about 6 months and before that i never paid attetion to diesels but now i am trying to find out everthing i can so my question is what is the diff and what do the abreviations mean on the duramax like lb7 or lmm i think there is more can u help me cuz my grandpa is wanting a duramax and i would like to be able to help him
LLY (2) is from 04.5-05
LBZ (D) is from 06-07
LMM (E i think?) is from 07.5-present
The 8th digit of the vin will tell yo what it is if your unsure from the body style, listed above.
There are some major differences bewteen each model each having its own little quirk, so its easier to refer to them by their RPO code

Well....
after a vin search, it turns out the truck is from Quebec.
unfortunately up here trucks from Quebec have a better then good chance the mileage has been tampered with. there is a chance the truck is clean but i want to know how many miles i am paying for... and unfortunately the Quebec automotive industry corruption has me leery. its a nice truck so i may go over it with a fine tooth comb... i dunno
