IMHO, I'd wait till the 2010 models came out (new body style). But if your getting a good deal on an 09, go for it.

Unless your dead set on a new truck...
only the C&C uses Urea in 2010 due to different emissions requirements for that segment.
The very 1st 6.7 is 2010 emissions compliant when it was introduced, Dodge didn't change anything on the P/U's to meet the new emissions requirements.

the trans is just as good as the allison, maybe better even, especially now that someone has figured it out, it is very capable of holding high hp. Stock for stock the 68rfe is just as reliable as the allison.

Trucks are trucks, they're all the same regardless of what logo is on the grill. Get the one you like better, don't let the myths and rumors about quality of any brand sway you in either direction.

I won't be driving any of my trucks that many miles, I'll keep them in the company but I get sick of looking at the same dash after a couple years. 43,000 on my Chevy right now and I'm already sick of it

Hows about getting a older model (06-early07) 5.9 with low miles and is really clean. Dont have to worry about all the emissions bs and probably save a few bucks

I have to agree with 94MATT, trucks are trucks and they'll all have problems.

I came here looking for guidance and to learn what I can about the diesel trucks and thier inherrant problems...and I have.

I am on powerstroke as well and, even being (obviously) biased toward one brand, there's ton's of issues on there daily. Won't start, won't run, won't this, won't that...

Reading all that crap scared the heck out of me and almost swayed my opinion toward the Dodge. It seems to be a workhorse of an engine and as someone else mentioned, much easier to get to. At least you don't have to remove the CAB to work on the engine

Then I start reading about people that get 2-3-400k + on thier powerstrokes, with little to no maintenance issues.

I come back here and start seeing post after post of HELP WANTED threads on Cummins that are doing the same sort of things

So it appears that no matter what you buy, it' s the luck of the draw and maintenance that will be the deciding factor. At least buying new you'll still have a warranty if something does happen

As for interior and exterior looks, fit and finish, eh, all about the same from what I can see. GM seems to have a little more "quality" and a bit better ride, but (IMO only) the exterior is a bit bland.

Dodge looks great on the outside, but the interior (again IMO only) is a bit plain.

Ford (IMO) seems to have the best exterior look and interior "classy" feel if any of that means anything to you?

I saw a blue MEGA CAB 4x4 today that was gorgeous! Lifted, tires/rims, tint...the only thing it lacked in my opinion, were some fender flares for the wider tires

I've been looking, sitting in, climbing all over, driving and researching, everything I can find on all three for the past month or so, and I'm still confused ()

Guess it's all about what you want?

well, ill tell ya straight up.. im just about the opposite of you. im in love with the cummins/dodge brand.. next comes ford and GM isnt even in my mind.. with that said, i can tell you a few things..

first off. to me, this is how it works:
chevy'gm have hte best tranny... allison
ford ahs the best interior and some exterior styling/comfort
dodge has the cummins.. 'nuff said.. i drive a dodge gasser now and love it..

BUT, cummins does have reputation. its strong, powerful, reliable and can easily take anything you throw at it. ford... ehhh. sometimes.. cant say about chevy/gm b/c i dont know.

You're right, there is no clear choice. Each have thier actual and percieved strong points

I always overdo it on the research, even when I bought my ricer DD

It's the nature of the beast, hazard of the trade if you will. Always been an investigator, a facts person, and have to find out everything I can before I make a final purchase decision.

At the moment, I"m still in the evaluation stage and in no real hurry

Hurricane season is effectively over so there's not a lot of potential that our team will be deployed anywhere until the next season. If so, my guess is it'll be somewhere that the boats will have to be loaded onto aircraft to get there! ().

Since we do most of our training locally and most statewide missions can be performed with smaller/lighter boats, a diesel isn't really necessary at the moment. Our training (fixed hull) boats are kept at the marina or are small enough to be towed with a gasser with relative ease. So...I've got some time to look

I agree with you 100% on model choices. Get what YOU like, danged what enyone else say's, and see how it works out

While doing my evals I've found that I prefer the ride of the GM, the power of the Cummins, the interior of the Ford and the exterior look of the Ford just a "tad" over the Dodge (but not enough to keep me from buying the "right Dodge" if it came up)

So here's the ultimate ride (IMO):

A Ford 250-350 interior/exterior mated with a Cummins motor, combined with an Allison Transmission.

Get what you want...
It's a truck not a boob job...you can always change it
