Default 98 gm 4.3 to 4bt

I have a 1998 gm 1500 with a 4.3 gas engine and a 5 speed trans. I am interested in swapping to a 4bt cummins. Would this be a good option? How much will I have to invest. I plan to do the work myself, just wondering what parts I need and how involved this project would be.

cool idea. With a welder and enough gridnding wheels and money you can get anything in there. A few guys have found some minor differences with frames between 1/2 and 3/4/1 tons, but you can do whatever you want. With the weight of a 6bt you might be pushing the 1/2 ton suspension, but you could def make it work if you really wanted to. 4bt will pull some sweet mileage too.
There's a conversion section in here that you can check out and start a thread on your questions too. There's a lot of people who know their **** on here.
