Default Do I want a dually?

I am planning on purchasing a 1 ton pickup to carry a large truck camper. Do I want to get dual rear wheels or not? Are duallies less comfortable and more difficult to drive in urban areas?

A 1 ton should be a dually in my opinion. If you don't want a dually get a 3/4 ton truck.

To answer your question, no I personally don't feel a dually is any harder to drive. You have to check your mirrors, and know where your fenders are, but other than that, it's just like driving anything else.

Duallys are a REAL pain in the *** in the city if you have to use it as a daily driver in a big city...If you only use it for hauling mostly, or long distance driving or in a less crowded rural area it's not an issue at all and I'd recommend it for a camper. They are a lot more stable than a 1-ton SRW truck carrying a camper.

I own i dually and love it mine is a flat bed so it 8X12 and its a pain to park mostly just back into spots but to tow or carry it beats the rest, i would put 3 ton on the bed and haul 6 on the trl and go to town

duallys are great but the only downfall is the fact that when you need tires you need to buy 6 instead of 4. duallys will chew up your front tires quicker than a single rear wheel will, at least all the ones i have seen. but the choice is yours. which brand are you lookin at or leanin towards?

More power to you if you are in a rural area with wide open streets and stuffs. But your pretty much f'ed in the butt if you want one of those while living in the city. Parking with a truck is a pain in the butt compared to a car ESPECIALLY if you got a dually. But that's why they have big parking lots so we can take up all those spaces xD

Having a Dually is also good for the waistline. You will be parking in the farthest spot away from the front of any store....more walking is good for you.

Seriously...I drove the wife around this weekend to go shopping....at one point (after navigating a tight lot and pulling out on to the main road) i let out a deep exhale....she looked at me and asked whats wrong....I simply said this aint the ideal grocery getter.

It's fun to drive on country roads, puul the camper great, but aint made for the walmart parking lot.....unless you park way out and walk.

If you decide to go with single wheel, get the 2500 and add some airbags. The only difference between 2500/3500 is the overload springs, which in my opinion/experience suck compared to bags for a slide in camper.

That is if you're talking Dodge anyways. I don't know if it's the same way with the others.
