Default Has problems, Is it worth it.

I have a chance to buy an 03 5.9 Dodge less than 200k for a decent price. I'm told it needs an ecm. It also says it will run with either. Question. ! does it require programming when replacing ecm? Is there anything in particular that I should also look for considering the ecm failure and either starts? Thanks guys I'm sure you'll bail me out again, Thanks.
