Default super duty spool ???

I want to throw a spool in the front axle but i worried about the axle popping and breaking or causing damage elsewhere. The only time id use it is offroadin on dirt.

I would think that the only time the spool would be in use is with 4x4 on and hubs locked so on dirt thats fine. but in 2w with unlocked hubs i shouldnt have any popping on streets right?

wat are you talking about "spool" if you are talking differentil lockers then no you shouldnt have a problem on the street but IMHO you should just save a lil more spend the extra $2-3 hundred and just buy a mechanical like and ox locker
if of course you are talking about lockers hope this helps

spools are stronger, cheaper, and have less moving parts to break. I dont got the money for a detroit or anything especially for the bigger gears. thanks for the help

Detroit is king, Spool is cheaper not stronger there's a difference. You let off the gas a detroit unloads on your axles... a spool nothing unloads your axles except your tires spinning or the torque moving the opposite direction. Depends on what type of offroading you do but a detroit saves you in axles if you go through rocks or the like

I used to have a Lockright in the front of my F350 crewcab under a Powerstroke with 35's. Definitely will do it again on the W250.

Default super duty spool ???

I'm a newbie on this site but I've been doing Offroad stuff for 12 years. Running a spool in the front will bring the pimphand down on a chain drive transfer case. That poor little chain will be trying to break the tires loose with a big diesel engine on top of them. Depending on the axle in the front. (hopefully it's a Dana 60) the Dana 50 has 30 spline axels at the diff and the hubs. The manual hubs will be your weak link then your axle shafts. The 60 has the 30 spline outers at the hub but are 35 spline at the diff and are considerably stronger than the bottle necked 50 axle shaft. You can make the balljoint 60 35 spline in and out but it's pricey cause you have to modify the unit bearing. I would at least do a lock rite cause the pins will be the weak link but a Detroit would probably be your best option. I run them in everything except my jeep cause I got hooked up on air lockers for the dana 60 and 10.25 in it. I still favor the detroits. Not buttons lines or seals to go out. It's all business. One of the buggies at the shop runs spools front and rear. It murders outer axle shafts with a 4.3 v6 and a turbo 400 but it has drive slugs instead of manual locking hubs so all the stress goes right to the stub shaft.

I could probably find you a Detroit for a reverse rotation Dana 60 used if you are interested. I don't have anything for the 50 but center sections cause we cut the inner c's and knuckles off of them to make custom 60s
