What is this and what does it do?
This is on the side of my 85 OM617 w/cali emissions, I put this motor in my Cherokee and deleted the emissions. This is not hooked up now and I am thinking it is limiting fuel/rack travel. Even with the ALDA adj screw all the way out I am getting no visible smoke no matter how hard I drive it. I hooked up an ohm meter to it and am not getting any reading change when moving the throttle. I am at the point of switching out the IP for a non cali IP. Any help would be great, thanks in advance! Here's some pics

Nope. They are very easy to adjust, all you need is a 10mm wrench and a screwdriver. Doesn't mean you should adjust it though. The ALDA is one of the last things that should be touched after everything else has been maintained up to spec.

That thing is sidemounted- looks like a KSB to me.Cold start accelerator.
It is available as electric and mechanical actuated version. It advances the injection point in direction early when the engine is started with a cold environment. This smoothens the engine run and allows better starting.can you check were the wiring is going to? Should lead to a coolant sensor.
I will check the imprinted bosch number.

I must have mis read or misunderstood what I read.Don't most guys over on superturbodiesel forum remove their ALDA?

The ALDA is two things, emissions control and overboost protection.
It reduces emissions by preventing excessive black smoke for people that drive aggressively. Those of us that remove it know our engine's capabilities and how to drive them to get the best results, the ALDA is for people that just want to get in and go.
It protects against a failed wastegate by giving the engine a way to reduce fueling (and as a relation, boost) to prevent engine damage from continued use post-failure. Again, those of us that remove it usually have accessory gauges (boost, pyrometer at the least), know the engine's limits and would notice something wrong when it feels/sounds unusual.
