Default 1981 240D 4 Speed

I was just looking at this car, the guy agreed to $650 for the car. It currently has 382k on it. He said that he drives it 25 miles a day and it runs and drives ok, it just does not like going up hills, at least that is what he said. Just has an oil change, and one of the filters changed (inline one), the other one needs changed still. Here are some pictures of the car. Definately not a gem, but I think it will do for the next two months or so until I get my truck back. Let me know what you think.

They are reliable cars from what I have read.

After thinking about it I am not going to purchase this car because of all of the rust.

I'd see if I can find a 300D post 82 if possible. Those were the turbo 5 cylinders. Also a 79 thru 81 300SD had a Turbo diesel withOUT an EGR if you can find one of those around.

240D had a whooping 67HP in a 3500lbs car!!! 0 to 60... yes, if it isn't up hill. Name: lmao.gif

Yep, he said it did not like going up hills, I am going to go look at another one today, not sure the specs on it but it appears to be in better shape.

Best year was 1985 - those cars will run for 500K miles no problem. I have 2 of those.

Gah 85 300D had all the Emissions stuff that the CA cars had on them. Trap Oxidizer and such.

82 thru 84 non-CA models were pretty much rock solid.

I own the same engine, and I love it! Take everything out of the air intake channel and never run it with old oil. These engines were designed for biodiesel. There are conversions to Turbo Diesels, but the cooling isn't that great. A 617 has one cylinder extra which gives it lots more pull uphill. With my fully loaded camper I got over some interesting hills in the Pyrenees and France's Massif Central! Just have a little patience....it's very fuel economic.
