Your limiting factor is the size of the pump element. I hate to point you to another forum, but Schuman Automotive /Forums - Powered by vBulletin is full of very knowledgeable guys on your particular engine. I believe there is a guy over there that has gone to a larger pump element from a later engine, but I am not sure what his results have been.

I'm over there as USMC_YMMOT. I have an older 1982 300D with the old reliable 3.0liter 5 cylinder.

did you turn up the pump yourself or did you take it to a MB expert? I want to get some more power out of mine. looking for a performance pump but for starters i just max out the one I have.

If the engine is running well now, you can max out the stock pump fuel delivery yourself, if you're careful. I've done that and it works well. The first poster is correct, the most you can get is 15-20% more power... Tommy is also correct, to get more power than that, you need larger elements ($$$$).

Side note - I no longer recommend the Schuman forum at all. While it used to have very knowledgeable people with very good information, most of them (including myself) have been banned from the forum by Lester (the owner / admin). Now, it's a closed / private forum with very little traffic. Most of the folks seem to have migrated to the SuperTurboDiesel forum at this link:

SuperTurboDiesel.com- Performance Mercedes turbo diesels

The real experts are at Mersuforum.net but unless you can read Finnish, there's limited info there (the English section doesn't get much traffic).
