Default 1962 190D????

yeah so I found this little project car I am thinking about picking up for CHEAP..
I don't know much about theses older MB diesel's so I am hoping someone on here may have some info...
from what I can tell it is a 1962 MB 190D....but when I search that year car it only brings up 190DC??? is this a good year MB diesel??? I am sure it is gutless but maybe that can be tweaked a little????

yeah it does need some restore work...BUT it runs and drives(it has a bad clutch slave cyl)
what do you MB guys think???
any help or info or advice would be much appreciated!!!

What was the Mercedes forum that you joined?

I don't know much of anything about your vintage in diesel, but my best friend does. The 190 is slow, but properly running then engines were built to drive at full throttle for hours. Aside from some issues with some of the 603 engines Mercedes diesel engines are tough to beat. The 617 5 cylinder engine is bullet proof. My best friend has a 300D that the the vacuum pump break which caused the timing chain to jump. The engine stop hard. No bent valves as rock arm absorbed the force. He replace a few rocker arms repaired the vacuum pump and went on his way.

That was the old 1.9liter OM621 Diesel in what is called the W110 Chassis. The guys that have them call them the Finbacks. They were rated at 55HP @ 4300 RPMs and would get in excess of 30MPG.

Problem is, they really aren't good as a freeway flyer as it will take everything the car has to maintain 70 MPH. Otherwise it will be a great little car. Not much to go wrong on them.

Brings back memories..
I had a '67 200d that was given to me about 18yrs ago. (guy was moving and coudn't take it)
Got it running, put some diesel fuel in the oil to clean it some. Pulled the drain plug and.. and........ it was like BLACK soft serve ice cream slowly coming out the plug hole!
BUT, finally got her driving around but the Fr rt brake caliper bound on me causing a fire, and had a friend tow me home. Hurt my back and ended up scrapping her because of back..
Still have the shop manual I think. The electrical connections from the key switch were VERY confusing to say the least. Plus they have like 5 bolts holding it to the column.

I'd say go for it!
4bt would be fun although you may have to enlarge the tunnel some for the bell housing.

Keep us updated on her.
