Default New Guy With 08' GMC

New guy here, so sorry if this has been brought up before. I have an 08' GMC crew cab short bed, and would like to give it a boost in horsepower, and help the fuel economy. I am looking at buying a new intake system and an exhuast system for now, and I do use the truck everyday, and in alot of dirt and dust. Others have recommended the S&B intake and for the exhaust, Magnaflow seems to be the way to go. I get my truck hung up in pastures on the ranch all the time because of that exhaust hanging out the rear, so I would like an exhaust that does not hang out as far or is a little more out of the way.

On the LMM there are a couple of options for the boost in HP and Fuel. I have the PPE and have been pretty impressed with it. I have not tried any of the other but I would like to try the Quadzilla.

I also have the AFE stage 2 intake system using the dry filter. I only did that to try to increase the turbo whine, not so much for performance. Studies have shown that the factory installed air filter are adequate if not better than the after market systems. I noticed no real gain by using the stage 2 intake.

As for exhaust IIRC MBRP is the only one that has the exhaust system for the LMM out already I could be wrong. I know you can use the older turbo back systems as well but you are going to have to cut all the DPF stuff out which is going to cause you to throw a code. I was never impressed with the Magna flow as far as sound but they may be working to make improvements.

Other will chime in as well I am sure.

Oh yeah welcome aboard.

DMax brother. Like noproblem stated you arent going to see any performance increase by changing the intake system, just a change in the turbo whistle. If your concerned about high dust areas like I am you can use a high capacity oil covered filter. I use the AFE Pro-Gard 7 on my truck for driving at the ranch. There are more and more programmers coming out for the LMM but from past experience with Duramax's the PPE typically leads the way so yo wont go wrong there. Right now MBRP is the only manufacturer out there with an exhaust system for the LMM but you are about to see several others within the next couple of months. Once again and enjoy your time here.

Thanks guys! I am really not looking for more performance, it does well on its own, however it would be nice to help the mpg's! I am not ready for a programmer yet, because when I was at SEMA this year, know one was excited to sell one for the new Duramax! Magnaflow was the big talk for exhaust for the Duramax, however RBP is going to build an exhaust for my brothers new Duramax. He is having SoCal Supertrucks build his new truck.

I bought everything for my truck from them, they are a great group of people.

I don't know what kind of mileage you are looking for but I am getting 14.9 mpg finally. If I keep it below 70 on the highway I am around 16.9. Not bad IMO.

You will want to get rid of the DPF to help the mpg's out. So you can either use EFI Live or Quad to get rid of the codes. ANY Duramax turbo back exhaust will fit. I used a Magnaflo 4" turbo back. The only thing you have to do is unbolt the exhaust bracket on the trans. It fit really well.

I was told that if you cut off the end of the exhaust, the part that gets me hung up in the pastures on the ranch, that it will screw up the computer? Is this true? It does not look like it does anything, but look like sh*t!
