Default What’s Your Opinion and Why!!!!!

I’m looking to buy a tuner and there are a lot of threads on here about which one everyone likes. The problem is no one tells why they like them so much or why they don’t like them. I need you guys to help make my mind up. I don’t mind spending the money on something that’s worth it.

Here’s the scenario: I have and 08 2500HD LMM. It’s my daily driver and I have 29,000 miles on it right now. The truck as of now is bone stock. I get about 15.5 mpg with using fuel additive. I’m not looking at drag racing or truck pulling. I want better mileage and every now and then set the guys back in the seat while were slamming some beers and smoken some tires if you know what I mean.

My three choices are as followed:

Edge Juice: Shift on the fly, all your parameters (EGR’s and so on) are on display and a lot of people have them. Down side that I hear they don’t restore factory setting, no transmission modification and was told it just doesn’t have the power for the price.

PPE: Good power, all the transmission modification, restores factory settings. Down side is- no shift on the fly and no visual parameters to see (must buy gauges) and a little pricier.

CST: Good price, Pre-Loaded with Dyno Proven Tune Files Reads / Clears DTC Trouble Codes, Saves factory PCM program. Down side is - no shift on the fly and no visual parameters to see (must buy gauges) and I don’t know anyone that ran one of these.

Where about Pennsylvania? I might be able to introduce you with some people that can help you. For the money I like the PPE. However; I am biased cause that is all I have seen in a Duramax. The Edge system I have seen in Cummins, and has been known to expose problems if the truck is stock. SCT is a excellent brand for Fords. SCT has been around and wont do you wrong on the Duramax that you have. It is just not that common. most people I know use the PPE or EFI Live system. The EFI has done amazing things for the Gm line. as far as Transmission control your not going to be able to do much. Alison has its own software. Do becareful tho, the software has a learning curve, and has been known to cause problems when tuning begins.
Why I like PPE? best bang for the buck in a Duramax. End of story. Enjoy your truck! PM me if you have more questions.

I have an 08 Dmax with PPE . I find it has good power but remember they are very hot tunes on 4-5-6. Trans upgrades r a must and EGT temps can get . The other thing I don't like is, if switching tunes it can take forever with these LMMs. The H&S is another shift on the fly, gauges an some good power I hear. If you can swing it I would buy EFI from a tuner and get the DSP5 and be done. If you have any changes later its just a matter of tuning again..My 2C

We tune a lot of Duramaxes here and have two guys that work here that have LBZ's

We have had good luck with the PPE tuners and the Edge Evolution's on them. The Juice With Attitude has been a little finiky on some but other trucks do just fine with them.

EFI is a very handy tool for trucks running big single turbo or twins with a lot of fuel. But with a stock turbo and stock fueling system it is not going to get you any more power than one of the above mentioned off the shelf tuners.

PPE for sure. Been running it for 2 years now on my 05. Was getting 18mpg went to 21. As long as you keep the power down should have no problems. EFI Live is the next step up from the PPE.

Is there anyone out there that had a bad experience with PPE or knows someone that did?

Well, Im going with the PPE Standard Tuner (i think). I do have one more question. Is this tuner capable of doing a DPF Delete? I saw that I can get a Hot2 w/ DPF delete and I dont want to buy the Standard if it cant do it.

Thanks Guys,
