Actually yes it is. Increasing boost not only increases burn efficiency but helps to reduce EGT's. Thats why trucks with twins seem to last a lot longer at the track than those with singles. They can make high HP levels with low EGT's. Your stock Duramax turbo is good to about 32psi. Anything after that is usless and has no benefit. PPE makes good products for the DMax and have been race and daily driver proven. This mod is safe for your truck and you'll LOVE the added benefits.

If you dont have a programmer such the PPE or Predator then yes. It not only will keep from setting codes but you can also control boost.

Yes and no. The increase in boost will give him the equivalent of one level on a typical programmer. So, if he buys one such as the Edge he would have to run it on 2 instead of 3 or his stock tranny will limp. The programmer will allow him to make the ECM ignore the codes but he wont have control over boost. It just depends on what he wants to do in the future.

Big power takes BIG money. Ya want to run with the big dogs your going to spend $25-30K. Your tranny is going to have to be one of the first mods you do because stock wont hold more than 400hp without limping.
As far as the intake goes the stock Duramax intake is already optimal and cannot be improved upon for air flow. You can install the Cold Air Intake mod to help cool the intake air down but you cant improve the flow. TXChristopher of coolmyduramax has developed a low cost CAI to add to the stock airbox.
If your looking for digital gauges with different color backlight look at the Autometer Nexus series. I'm about to install some on my truck myself. You choose what color or array of colors that the gauges display. They're expensive but the KEWL factor is a 10.
