Looks or Performance?

I wanna have something new on my truck around christmas time..
But I'm not quite sure what I want. I want to make my truck so people will see it going down the road and say "Dude that's frikkin sweet!" However I really want to have a fast truck. So when i blow by people they are like "Holy crap what was that blur??" lol. My performance mods I'm lookin at are Gauges, PPE programmer, and tie rod sleeves(yeah i know the programmer is the only performance thing)

Or... I want to get a nice set of 33's and some 18"wheels... I am looking at Nitto Terra Grapplers right now. They aren't to expensive and look good. However I know nothing about them. I'm not sure if that's what I want. Any ideas on tires and wheels let me know. Pictures are greatly appreciated.:U:

I just want ya'lls opinion on the situation. Whichever one I dont choose I will probably get around Feb.
(oh and if I get the tires and wheels I am going to get a leveling kit/maybe lift)

Oilfield_Mafia 10-13-2008 11:14 PM

gauges and sleeves are performance mods too bud.. I would get the gauges and stuff before rims.. :up2:

I've got to second that, even running a stock tune I can heat her up pretty good. Put bigger wheels and tires and that'll make it work a bit harder doing the same errands and I think you'd be safer to know what it's doing.

stkdram55 10-13-2008 11:44 PM

Just remember..."Chrome dont get ya home":pca1:

2500HeavyDuty 10-13-2008 11:45 PM

hes 2wd, he would really have to mess up to bend the tie rods with out the sleeves.

i wouldn't get them unless your one bad driver lol

wheels and tires, hummer h2 rims look sweet on 35's, you migh have to trim and crank up the tortion bars alot but they look awesome.

4 inch exhaust :U: let that lb7 roar

Oilfield_Mafia 10-13-2008 11:49 PM

2wd?? doh! my bad!:argh::argh: then I would get gauges and PPE, and exhaust

Big_Johnson 10-14-2008 12:37 AM

yeah see i had no idea if i still needed the sleeves since i ended up getting 2wd.
and i'm tryin not to go with too big of tires cuz i wanna get decent gas mileage still.
and yeah i do some crazy stuff while driving but i know what i'm doing. i used to power slide around town back when i used to have a car. (which is why i went through almost 2 sets of tires in 20k miles) but the tires i have on my truck now aren't gonna be very good in a few months which is why i'm considering the upgrade.

yeah.... i already have to turn my truck off whenever i go through drive thru's:lol88:
it's pretty funny. I love my trucks to be loud. but what is the difference in a turbo back exhaust and just regular ole straight pipe or cat back?

2500HeavyDuty 10-14-2008 12:47 AM

well since you got a lb7 its down pipe back, one company makes an aftermarket down pipe but its not even worth the money on a stock turbo.

to when u order a turbo back its actually going to be down pipe back, and i got a 5inch from mbrp straight piped and i love it. you have to yell to have a conversation when the truck is on.

yours prolly dont have a cat on it, so a cat back would be fontpipe flange back if your lookin at the exhaust from below. i got the complete exhaust for the egt reduction and the big tone, even though i might of lost some hp getting a 5 inch than a 4 inch. but i got big hp comming.

the truck is pretty quitet compared to how it would be straight piped at idle.

maine difference is sligh hp gain the more you remove, and cooler egts. but bigger more noticable difference you will see is sound.

2500HeavyDuty 10-14-2008 12:54 AM

one thing you can ad is a ppe boost increase valve, takes about a minute to install and i seen a 2psi increase of boost on my truck, even though im making way more boost than what the valve supposedly makes over stock

Big_Johnson 10-14-2008 01:13 AM

Yeah i actually looked a that boost increase valve. And i have looked at the mbrp pipes.
I originally wanted to end up spending about 6000+ within the next 2-2&1/2 years to get some crazy power outta my truck. but now that i have a 2wd it seems like it may be pointless since the more power i get the more weight i'll have to put in the back to race... And i may end up going with getting all of it and just asking everyone for money for chirstmas. All of it as in wheels, tires, gauges, PPE, exhaust. And i may order in the boost increase valve tomorrow:w2:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

exhaust and gauges may come in pretty soon too.
oh and i forgot to ask. if i do decide to get way up there in power should i wait to get the 5" exhaust since it's gonna be a couple years.... and is yours dual?

2500HeavyDuty 10-14-2008 01:14 AM

there's ways to tune traction problems :w2:

most of the fast vehicles don't even want to race from a dig anyway, they bitch about not having traction.

try asking one of the vendors on here for the valve the could save u a few dollars

mine is 5 inch single.

:tada:

5 inch exhaust helps more with a bigger turbo, 4 inch is good cause it costs less, and adds more hp than a 5 inch exhaust would to on a stock turbo.

haha yeah i hate it too. but of course when you are on the road it usually keeps speeds down. And i can't really get another ticket right now... i've gotten puilled over twice 97 in a 55.... got off both times but i dont think the 3rd time will be a charm.

But i have noticed that i blow people away at a 30 roll like you said.(atleast i think it was you..) and yeah i was actually about to go post about the increase valve:U:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

AH! another thing. my truck kinda stuck at 50 the other day while i was hammering on it. what was that about? like it kinda feels likt it stick sometimes...:humm:

2500HeavyDuty 10-14-2008 01:24 AM

:humm:

sometimes the transmission can pick up bad habits. its always adapting to the way you drive. and adjusts itself to you, its always learning

Big_Johnson 10-14-2008 01:26 AM

Ummm...Yeah, that doesn't sound creepy at all:w2:
But it's pretty sweet at the same time.
Any other cheap easy mods like the increase valve?

2500HeavyDuty 10-14-2008 01:32 AM

i know a cheaper mod than the boost valve, but its dangerous with out boost gauge, could blow up the turbo :D

mod the intake, shave the antenna, all headlights on mod. all of those can be done for less than $20 combined

engine has too much electrical stuff on there to get cheap hp out of it. needs programming

Big_Johnson 10-14-2008 01:35 AM

(i'm calling around or under 100 bucks cheap btw)

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

um yeah. i want my turbo to not blow up. i figure it's be for the best...
But what is headlights on mod? and i saw the shaved antenna thing and your intake box mod. but i'd have to read back over it to do it.

2500HeavyDuty 10-14-2008 01:35 AM

if you do 5 or 7 litte $100 mods that adds up to a programmer that could have been bought.

theres a few more, but you wont see benefits untill you start adding tons of fuel and air to the engine

unfortunately there still isnt a write up on how to to the all headlight mod for 03+ gm trucks. Hint Hint

it keeps your low beams from turning off when you flick on the high beams

But heres a simple pic of how to wire the silicon diodes needed for the modification.

very true. :ok1: I' may just stick with the boost valve and any other little things that would be like eating a meal at home instead of going out to eat. ( i eat out alot but have started too cut down to save $$$) But i got a good deal on the programmer i want from here so hopefully that will be a late november buy :U: then wheels and tires for chirstmas.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

an yeah definately not gonna try the headlight deal. I'm thinkin of getting HID's anyways.

2500HeavyDuty 10-14-2008 01:47 AM

i eat out 5-8 times a week. hooters atleast 3 times.

imagine if i brought lunch to work.... i spend 400+ a month feeding myself while not at home

if yout getting HID's there is a mod to disable the auto headlight feature so keep the HID's from flickering during a start up at night.

but then again you can just also turn the headlight switch to the off position or leave the parking brake on before starting the truck.

Big_Johnson 10-14-2008 01:56 AM

yeah i dont make but like 400 a month lol. i cover my food base by eating sonic alot(where i work:w2:) it's an easy and fun job. plus i get to work with some good lookin girls.:5: But yeah i dont use my parking break... I have an automatic.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

i pretty much just spend alot of money on clothes.. i spent $1400 in one summer. 222 in a store on vaca and bought a shirt pants and a belt... I'm kinda attracted to expensive things.

2500HeavyDuty 10-14-2008 02:02 AM

i haven't bought clothes since i got my truck lol

hell its only money

Big_Johnson 10-14-2008 02:07 AM

Haha. i acutally went into the mall the other day and bought clothes at buckle(you may not have that store i've talked to alot of ppl that have never heard of it) and the people that worked there were like "hey you haven't been in here to buy anything in awhile what's up?" my response..."i bought a diesel truck. It steals my money. It is top priority" that happened in about 5 other stores that i went into. :w2:

oh I got all that too. Carhartt boots and overalls. I got my city clothes and my farm clothes. "I may look like a city slicker... I'm just a country boy at heart"
:dixie:

stkdram55 10-14-2008 02:25 AM

:c::c::pals:

bigdaddydiesel 10-14-2008 08:47 AM

I only buy new clothes when the wife gets tired of seeing the holes and tells me it is time to go to Tractor Supply! Wranglers Pants last a while, Carhart T's, Rocky gortex work boots, and a hat or two... But then again I also buy them for the wife, the twelve year old boy, and six year old little girl; and soon the new baby!!!
As far as food, it costs us about 1200 a month to feed our little clan whether we eat out or not.
When I am on the road delivering trees and stuff I lose all kinds of weight because I run so hard that I barely eat at all... Just enough to maintain the energy... and then it is all fruits and veggies...and water...

stkdram55 10-14-2008 08:51 AM

Wrangler, Skoal Rings:rocking: (Not me though) thats all ya need!!!

bigdaddydiesel 10-14-2008 09:00 AM

I know some people who laugh at wranglers, but they are always buying new stuff, it is almost like they wear their clothes until they get dirty then they buy new to avoid washing them...:w2:

stkdram55 10-14-2008 09:04 AM

yeah well i hate to turn this thread into a clothes discussion but, those people are the idiots that pay $75 for jeans with holes already in them...I tell ya what give me $30 and a few months and ill make you some jeans with holes in em the old fashion ways and people wonder why they dont have any money:argh:

Rttoys 10-14-2008 09:54 AM

:humm: The last time I spent $1400 on cloths.........um never. I could probably add all the cloths I've ever bought and it won't amount to $1400 :ph: No wonder people say they have no money, it's not the economy falling it paying to much for stuff that's made in a sweat shop and sold for some major $$$ :argh:

Oh, and on the Terra Grapplers, only get those if you like to buy tires every 20k miles or less if you are spinning your tires a bunch.

Train horns are always a good addition. :U: Not visible, but usefull. :tttt:

Oilfield_Mafia 10-14-2008 10:11 AM

All my Britches got skoal rings in them.. and My Overalls all got skoal rings in the top chest pocket..
