The Detroit News
reports that the next generation Rogue will be produced in the U.S., following remarks by Nissan Americas Chairman Carlos Tavares. The modestly priced mid-size crossover would be produced at Nissan's Smyrna, Tennessee plant in 2013, shifting production from Nissan's plant in Kyushu, Japan.

The reasons to produce the Rogue stateside are many, but the biggest has to do with money and volume. Tavares says the increased value of the Yen is one reason, and the move would make even more sense considering the automaker intends to produce 100,000 units of the CUV each year. Nissan received a $1.4 billion loan from the Energy Department to build the Tennessee plant on the condition that it builds 150,000 Nissan Leafs and another 200,000 battery packs each year.
