Sprint Cup Series driver Carl Edwards is under NASCAR scrutiny after he wrecked Brad Keselowski late in Sunday's Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

HAMPTON, Georgia — Kurt Busch won Sunday's Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway for the second year in a row, but extracurricular activities behind him —involving drivers Carl Edwards and Brad Keselowski — stole the show.
Edwards, some 156 laps off the pace after a lengthy stay in the garage while repairs were made to his car, returned to the track and spun Keselowski, sending his car into a violent rollover crash.
Last year, Keselowski wrecked Edwards in a similar manner as they raced for the victory at Talladega (Alabama) Superspeedway. Edwards's car flew into the catch fence separating the racing cars from the grandstand, and several fans were struck by debris.
In the opening laps of Sunday's race, Keselowski bumped Edwards, sending his car out of control into contact with the car of Joey Logano and the outside retaining wall.
NASCAR officials ordered Edwards to park his car and summoned him to the series' mobile office for a conference. No other action was taken, but punishment is expected to be specified today or tomorrow.
The incident punctuates an effort by NASCAR to cut back on its efforts to micromanage drivers' behavior and allow them to race with enthusiasm and emotion.
Keselowski called Edwards's actions "uncool" and said that he did not wreck Edwards intentionally, either at Talladega or in Sunday's race. He did not deny holding his line when Edwards attempted to block him at the finish of the Talladega race, went on to win the race and vowed he had no second thoughts about his actions.
Last year, Keselowski and fellow rising-star driver Denny Hamlin engaged in an ongoing feud in NASCAR's second-tier Nationwide Series.
On Sunday evening, Edwards posted a defense on his Facebook fan page, writing: "Considering that Brad wrecks me with no regard for anyone's safety or hard work, should I A: Keep letting him wreck me? B: Confront him after the race? C: Wait til Bristol and collect other cars? or D: Take care of it now? I want to be clear that I was surprised at his flight and very relieved when he walked away. Every person has to decide what code they want to live by and hopefully this explains mine."
