Information Toyota-Hired Firm Finds No Problem With Electronic Throttle

A Toyota-funded test of vehicles has failed to find issue with the automaker's electronic throttle system, which some safety advocates have accused of being linked to widespread reports of unintended acceleration in Toyota and Lexus vehicles. Back in September, Toyota recalled 3.8 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles for issues with mismatched floor...

I like throttle by wire. Linkages are a pain to fabricate and fix. I'd go as far as to say that electronic signals are more reliable and less likely to stick than mechanical linkages.

Eighteen wheelers have been throttle-by-wire for a long time now; I think they beat the automotive industry to TPS's for the large part.

I imagine that the real reason behind throttle-by-wire for gasoline and Diesel engines is that the complete computer control of the engines makes emissions way easier to control.

Some complain about the "feel" .....I can't tell the difference on mine.....Not sure I'd go with higher reliability........lots of miles logged on linkage and cables since 1900

yes, thats precisely what i meant, on my dad's lexus theres about a second delay before the throttle decides to go, and by that time the pedal is halfway pressed and engages quite suddenly often times lurching the car foward.

it takes a while to get used to "easing up" on the gas..

Different manufactures have very different 'feels' to them. There are several that I don't like. The one in my Dodge however feels very good. So far I really like it; but I have only had it for about 4 years now. . . .
My boy just got a 96 PowerStroke a few months ago. I really haven't driven it much and I didn't like it at first. I think I'm getting the hang of it now so I may wind up liking it. It is a manual trans. though and I'm sure that makes it a little harder to be smooth with it. It is not as nearly refined and predictable as the Dodge one is. But then there is 10 years between them also.
