Information No Peanut Butter Spreading of SS Across Chevrolets, New Boss Says

General Motors' Vice President of Global Engineering Mark Reuss says the use of "SS" on Chevrolets will be applied more carefully; not like it was on the Chevrolet Cobalt.

They need to bring Pontiac back....

That new G8 was a sweet car....BMW killer for the price of a 1/2 ton pickup.

Maybe we'll get lucky and it will become the new caprice...

Not so fast, I don't think so.

They could bring one or two cars back but not all the brand that is just another chevy with a different grill... GM is still doing it and it is still costing them money. Very slow learners.

What was wrong with the Cobalt SS.....it was a little turbo'd 4 banger that ate imports. It was just as good as the SRT-4 Neon. I'd rather see punks in those that Hondas. It's not my thing but they have their purpose and i think the turbo'd Coblat deserved the SS badge.

You have a point there but I don't think that's Chevy's point. Personally, the SS has always been big everything to me but like you say, times are different now.

exactly, i remember the SS 454, SS 396, then they just started making good advances in technology and did the SS Camaro and used the LS1 motor.... still was and is very fast..... no 4cyl IMHO deserves the SS badge.....

The Nova wasn't a big car....it was considered a compact for the time. GM has/had the same problem as Chrysler....3 of the same damn car with a different brand plate glued on it. The cross branding is a cheap way to build a lot of cars but people see through that gimmick real quick and go elsewhere. With the way the EPA is cracking down the days of big blocks with the SS badge are done. If they have a "Hot Rod" package of each line let it have the SS badge as long as it is a High Performance option. Not just a badging. If they want the badging options then bring the RS badges back. The RS badge was more of an appearance packsge where the SS was a motor/drivetrain. Dodge is doing that right with the R/T and SRT packages. R/T is appearance moreso where SRT is Performance based.

I totally see your point and when i see SS i think of the big blocks. Honeslty I really don't even notice new cars or pay attention to them because I think they took the NA$CAR idea and made them all the same except for the stickers. No style or design across the board anymore. Sure they each have a few stand outs but for the most part they are all cookie cutter junk. I agree the Impala SS was a joke but calling a FWD car an Impala is a sin anyway. Same as a four-door Charger. They are out of ideas and they know the old days are stirring up nostagic feelings and they saw what the Mustang redesign did and they want to cash in and they are selling their souls and hertage to cash in by naming cars after the old ones and throing badges on everything to make people look. But times are changed and the old days are gone no matter how much we long for them. I don't think it should be slapped on anything with a hopped up engine but something special like double the hp output and a turbo....well that might get an argument out of me. Look at the new Taurus SHO.....now that car deserves the SHO plate more so than the anemic 4.6L Tortise thing that was out there.

well for years the Taurus SHO was a v-6 car, it wasn't until the new bubble body style till they went to the small V-8. a twin turbo 300hp v6 definitely deserves the SHO badge, with quality aftermarket support i don't see 400-450 hp very hard to obtain with that car..... and did i mention it is AWD also..... think of all the feelings that thing is going to hurt in the future.....
