Suncoast makes a converter and I think its transgo that has a shift kit for the valve body. There is also a new converter from mopar that is from the European crd's and only cost about $200.
As to the EGR valves, the cheapest way to disable it is do what it called the ORM or Off Road Mod. you just unplug the mass air flow sensor, this will keep the EGR valve from opening. I did this on mine, but I sealed the plug on the wire harness side to keep water out of it to prevent a possible short. The Jeep runs the same, maybe a little better, it does get a little better mileage this way, but you will get a Check Engine Light. I am only doing this until I can get my ecm reflashed by GDE(green diesel engineering), but that will happen after the converter so that I can run there "hot" tune with out converter shudder
Only other problem area is Crank Case vapors are just "recycled" back into the intake track, instead of just being vented into the atmosphere(damn light duty diesel emissions). The problem is oil gets pass the so called trap or separator on the valve cover and ends up in the intake, turbo, intercooler and so on. There is a cheap fix for this, its called the elephant hose mod or EHM for short.

Get a mann & hummel provent 200 filter unit to get the oil out of the PCV hoses.
It's a very common mod in australia and europe, because egr will be clogged with soot and oil.
Check your bost and intake sensor very often. If you will find soot you have the same amount and thickness in the intake manifold.
Deleting the egr is difficult(causing an EFL), but it seems to be a must have.

Sonnax
Sonnax has a line pressure booster for 49 bucks. External install takes 1 minute. ATS has two TCs starting at 800.
Just bought my 2005 Liberty Diesel.
I think I will start with the sonnax and look at a GDE tune.
Good tranny shops can help out with all of this.
The tranny really needs to be drilled out and updated quite extensively to make it bullet proof. ATS is about 3000.00 for a stump puller. They have provided several to Liberty owners according to them.
