It is a lot cheeper that way and you can keep it close to the floor.

With 3/16" thick steel, you could ramp other vehicles on it and it wouldn't bend.

I've got a 5 foot chunk of 2x6 rec. tube that I might use. Would it be too constrictive? Probably won't do stacks on this truck especially if it sells later this week but if I can pick up the PSD I found I'll stack it. So would 3" into this 2x6 i be ok? I plan on running 6" aussies or bull haulers, haven't decided which would look better on an 97 ext cab LB.

I'm saying it's good it's thicker steel. You can still throw stuff in the bed and not worry about munging it up.
