I'm looking forward to the next dyno event, but something got me curious. Why do I have to run in 5th gear? Did everyone else with a stickshift use OD as well? I've been told I should use the most direct(1:1) gear available which is 4th for my transmission to get the most accurate results. Any thoughts?

thats the way it works. most rigs will get more in OD. leastwise the ones with decent power, unlike the vette, which got the best rwhp in 2nd....


one thing is the turbo spools better with a load on it and it gets a better load in OD.

every rig is different. pays to do one run in direct so ya know, but figure most of our rigs cept for my isuzu and sometimes the 6.2's will get the most out of OD.

if you have a larger turbocharger running in a higher gear will load the engine and light the chargers better, there was about 50 HP difference when I dyno'd mine years ago. that's at the 600-700 HP range.
