Carb'ed vehicles usually need to run like crap to pass those dam tests. I had a 79 F-150 with a 400 and a 79 Capri with a 302. I had to adjust them so much, they backfired, idled like crap and would diesel when I shut them off, but they passed the smog test. I had a removable cat on the capri too. I had header collector flanges on the pipes and on the cat and straight pipe that replaced it.

Yeah, they don't put it on a dyno, but they do make you blip the idle up to 2700 RPM from idle a few times in a row to test your emissions.

I wonder if they're doing this because they changed the Ada County emissions testing to every other year. I'm in Ada county and supposedly I have to get my IDI tested this week. I had the PSD tested last week and it was 1/10th of a percent for the sniffers to even tell it's running. I think the tests are a joke and they're just collecting numbers... Though my Jeep w/ a Ramjet 350 under the hood failed miserably a few years ago.
