I have a 1999 Ford F250 Turbo DIESEL, 7.3L! I have had no problems out of it till I got some bad fuel. bottom of the barrel I suppose. Anyway, here comes trouble!!!! it started blowing white smoke and would loose power, I'd pull over and it seemed to be ok at idle but any gas and just sounded like crap, start booging and wanting to stall and more white smoke. So no other options being 1AM or so I proceed to floor it and it gradually works it way up to 2000 a little more and then would rev normal from about 2200rpm to just under 3000 and I'd let it off the floor, back to idle. during this process white smoke is bellowing out the tail pipe to the extent you couldn't see the house I was next to! repeat and rinse. drain fuel bowel and it'd run ok for a few min then again and again. I make it home. I add sea foam to try to fix the fuel and it seemed to be working ok accosionly loosing power ,blowing white smoke , and I'd pull over and floor it till it"d seem to get over it and proceed.
I"d also been having problem with the battery s going dead due to plug ontop of Alt not being clipped. found and fixed.
not long after days maybe a week take altinator off and have it checked cuz batterys are draining over night,bad alt. so I get a new one at witch point it seems to be fine for half a day then the volt meter begins to do the exact opposite it starts going Up and up and up!! I have to put A/C on full stereo system on full and roll up and down my windows, not to mention the hi beams being on, to use the power being produced and headed for HOME. I get their and plan on checking altinator the next day.All the time( when not running) batterys are loosing power. over a 2hr period not enough juice to start. So when a errand needs to be ran a little later I figure what the hell need to keep batterys charged enough to make it to pep boys in the morning so I take off after warming it up for a few min and it seems to be running fine no volts thru the roof no studder. about 4 miles from home and CAPUTT loss of power white smoke runs just long e nough to get it off the road and dies turn it over till I have no juce left witch wasn't much maybe 4 times and I'm stuck on side of on ramp just enough truck in the road to assure towing. stay with truck till 8Am Thank god cuz two different tow trucks come by and mag lighted it until they saw me start stepping out and went along their way. I get it towed home that morning!!
wouldn't turn over even with jumper cables so I think maybe hydro locked, proceed to pull glow plug and get mom to hook up jumpers long enough to turn over with GP's out to expel any water or such. it turns over fine! glow plugs back in wont crank,/ new starter/ Cranks better than ever but wont start!! oh morning after got towed home replace glow plug relay runs again then the CAPUTT!! so new altinator works too well/ water in gas that I've now bypassed and am pulling straight out off gas can to insure fresh fuel /new glow plug relay/ new Battery/and new starter!!!!!!!!!CRANKS GREAT WONT START BATTERY S STILL DRAINING IF LEFT ATTACHED!!!! PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!!!
