It's funny how people always assume that. You can't do anything these days without someone assuming you're compensating.
If everything I have heard over the years is correct, then if you own a truck, a lifted truck, a corvette, sports car, an old muscle car, put a big block in something, a diesel pickup, put stickers on your truck, put stickers on your car, spend a lot of money on your cars/trucks, own a Harley, own any motorcycle, drive too fast, or show off, build a big house, build a big shop, or buy a fast snowmobile, then you are clearly compensating for something.

a wise man (i think of him as being wise, his name is Bubba, seen his license, no lie) once told me, it is better to be asset rich and money poor as you can "write off" the assets on taxes, the "assets" can go missing if the Gov. were to come after them.... if you are asset poor and money rich, you can't enjoy the money, it does you no good in the bank and is useless...... this guy lives on a few hundred acres in TX, has a handful of vehicles, a NICE 2500+ sqft home, tractors, side by sides, a shop full of toys and tools.... few hundred head of cattle.... is this man compensating for anything, no, he is just enjoying what he has worked for......
and then there will be those people that think I compensate by over explaining stuff.....
