Hi fellas been a while, not driving my rig much, so just look at it and get a little wistful. any way weird problem w/ starter I think, 90% of the time truck will fire up normally the other 10% of the time I'll just get clicks from the starter area so Im thinking the solenoid or the contacts, question is do I go ahead and get at it or could it be something else? Batteries are clean and strong cables are unbroken and appear to be ok, so I'm hesitant to drop the starter, any input would be great.Thanks

 

try starter relay there about 30 bucks and if thats not the problem you have a spare ready to go. otherwise its proly the solinoid in the starter do you have a bunch of oil dripping on it? that will foul it eventualy btw i bought a brand new starter from autozone for 120 and it works great rocky mountain cummins wanted 1100 and no thats not a misprint $1100 frickin dollars

 

Wait my heart just stopped, good thing I have a extra and that only cost me 500.00 whew ok,, any rate thanks for the tip, now are you suggesting I pull out the good one
(starter relay) and "try" another.
No oil dripping's that I can see, I had a tip that I could clean the contacts and or brushes and that's a good way to extend the life of it,,
