Default Modding diesels

Now I joined this site cause I don't know as much about diesels as I probably would think I do. It seems like most people on here have the general diesel(ie whatevers in a pickup truck or semi ect) So I guess I can focus on those. I would like to learn about other diesels like the ones in cars and Duetz & Perkins aswell.

I always thought that Bully Dog, Banks, and chips were the way to go. It seems like a lot of people on here don't like doing that or find other ways. They're engines so I'm sure there's cranks and cams out there. But other than that what is the best way to mod a diesel? Pros & Cons of the previously listed way, I think at least Banks has good stuff, if anything their intakes and turbo manifolds.

Sorry, I'll probably have more of these questions, cause I just don't know much like which ones are worth using and etc. I want to learn. Like I worked at UPS Worldport and we had Belt Loaders and Tugs that used Perkins and Duetz 4bangers. I thought with enough mods one could be dropped in a car. I know people drop them in cars but most pick up truck diesels seem way to heavy especially if performance(even if it's novelty at the least) is what your looking for.

diesels respond to cams but not like gas motors do ie it will not lope with a "big cam". with a diesel the more air and fuel you can get into the cylindar the more power. so people usually upgrade the injectors, turbo, intake exhaust, and some way to get more fuel out of the injection pump, ie "chip" or modifying the pump
"chips" come in different forms like a downloader that you plug into your obd2 port and it rerights your ecm. or modules that go inline, intercept the signal from the ecm and modify it to the motor. some diesels can't be "chiped" because they are mechanical injection so there is no electrical modifying that can be done. another option is to have them custom tuned ie efilive for cummins duramax.
banks imo is overpriced for something that doesn't give as much power as others out there.
and just so you know you will probably be teased over the chip thing, nobody likes to call them that.

The engines you mentioned (Deutz and Perkins) are mostly found in electric generators. therefore there optimum rpm is in the 1500 rpm range. This is done to achieve a very low wear beacause these engines run a long time. Sometimes weeks or month without interruption.
You will need an engine with a wider useable power band.

Thats why I'm here to learn. LOL I'm being sincere.

Well the Tugs and Belt loaders had 4banger Duets and Perkins, these things wiegh more than most cars and I remember getting these one types of tug to go about 25mph.
We had one like this one that had a perkins and it was the fastest one in our motorpool:

I couldn't find the exact model we had that had the Duetz in it but these where everywhere:

They had Ford 300's and diesels both would pop wheelies and drag pintle hooks.

there is alot of perkins diesels in industrial aplications, they seem to have good power for that but in a vehicle they seem to fall on there face because you want to go the speed limit . unless you only want to go around 50mph max. all the ones i work on say high idle is around 2300rpm

Look like torqie airport vehicles , being built to haul all day, but not to break speed limits

Okay so screw those, ROFL! What would be a good modable diesel for a car? Aside from the old Mercedes 300 TD 5cylinder?
