Default 4" Mufffler

I just installed a heartthrob 4" exhaust system on my 96 2500 Sierra with the 6.5 Turbo Diesel. It sounds like crap. It makes my diesel sound like a gas engine. Does anyone know of a 4" muffler that will give my truck back its diesel sound? The original exhaust sounded better.

I thought the same thing when we swapped the stock muffler for a 4" MBRP muffler (Cummins, though). We took it off and straight-piped it and it sounds perfect now.

I really do not want to straight pipe it. It actually sounds good but it sounds like one mean *** gasoline engine. I want a diesel tone.

I have a universal 4" straight though tractor muffler on my 1st gen. It took the raspyness out but left most of the whistle. It has a unique sound now, very deep but still somewhat loud.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've heard good things about Aero Turbine mufflers...

In my experiences thats just the sound you're going to get from the 6.5

IMO, they sounds similar to the 6.9 and 7.3 IDI, like you said similar to a gasser V8

yah, even straight piped, they sound like one really mean gasser. I think it's sweet myself..... I've got a benz with stock exhaust, a 6.5 with Ford 6.0 exhaust (lets the turbo whistle though, gives it a deep tone, and best of all, replaced the rusted stock system for $60. LOL) and my dodge is straight piped.

With all that rattle under the hood, nobody's gonna mistake your 6.5 for a gasser. LOL

Exactly, the 6.5 just sounds like a gasser thru the enhaust, its not going to have the sound of a Duramax or Powerstroke, I would think its partly because of the IDI injection, and partly because of the turbo

When i first heard it i was horrified but over the past couple days i have actually grown to like it. Even my dad likes it and he hates loud vehicles. I pulled a boat out of the water today and i noticed i had much more power than i am used to having.

Im going to guess and say the IDI plays a bigger part than the turbo, based off the fact of how the 6.9 and 7.3 IDI's sounds
