There's always a groundswell of aftermarket legal concern when it's SEMA season.
Through the letter of the law, you can make a case that any modification to a vehicle is against federal law. Federal legislation on the issue is typical American "let's make everything a felony and only enforce what's convenient" federal law, and it's in the typical American state of statutory neglect. State law is enforced more consistently, but varies a lot according to the state. Historically all of the laws are mostly applied to prosecuting money-making operations like importers, commercial vehicles and aftermarket parts manufacturers, because it's the American way to use law enforcement as legalized extortion rather than protecting public interest.
Everybody in America is a felon if you know it or not. Our statutes are seriously that sloppy.
So it isn't a bad idea to support aftermarket activism. All it would take is enforcement of current laws and virtually everybody on the road could be written up for thousands of dollars in fines. In this country, our only protection from our laws comes from democratically-supported prosecutors.

THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IS NOT A DEMOCRACY
To many people believe this country is a democracy, and that is exactly what the current administration and congress want you to think so they can scare the majority and take your rights by letting the majority vote on it.
THE UNITED STATES IS A REPUBLIC!, spread the news so others will quit falling into the democracy trap.
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
We only elect our leaders democraticly.

They can and will take away our rights if we don't educate ourselves.

I was just trying to emphasize the point that it seems small groups of people in agencies (ahem, ahem, the EPA) are trying to control what the people of this country do as a whole, no matter what we want. But we have the power to stop it.
