Default IH scout

A friend of mine wants to sell me a turbo diesel IH scout... I dont know much about the engine. I think its an Isuzu? Anyone that knows anything about this engine/vehicle combo, I would appreciate your thoughts and information.

5 cyl nissan sd33. had different trans varying from manual to auto.(t-18 or t-19 or torqflite 727)

i ve talked to a few people with them. supposedly they get decent mileage (~upper teens). as for power could not tell you. I always wanted one with a diesel. my 78 scout 2 with a 304 was a turd for pushing 36" iroks even with 4.56 gears. i should rephrase on the street it was okay....off road a different story.

6 cylinder nissan sd-33t engine. It was used in tug boats in the 80's. 101 hp and 176 ft-lbs of torque. It came with a manual 4 spd T-19 trans or torqueflite 727 automatic. Transfer case is a dana 300 gear driven case. It has good low end torque but not alot of top end torque. It's a really solid engine. It has a manual glow plug button to the left of the steering wheel. It takes a few cycles to start in the colder temps but once its warm it does great. Overall its a very solid and reliable drivetrain. Lemme know if you want anymore specifics.

I know a guy that had an older one with a n/a 6 cyl. It didn't have much throttle but it ran real good for a long time. He loved the truck and as far as I know he still drives it.

No not really I don't even know if their strong enuf to take much more power than stock. The trucks pretty slow all around. They basically came out with the for better fuel mileage.

Nissan. Its pretty underpowered for the vehicle size and the engine can't handle much added power without internal strengthening.

You can remove the fuel spring and increase boost to 9psi (factory is 6psi), that would get it up to the power of a factory 3.0L Mercedes OM617.

They are not build to race them...
