Can you run a clear tailight legaly in Missouri? If this isnt in the right section please move it

 

i would like to know that answer i didnt think clear taillights were legal anywhere

 

i didnt think they were legal anywhere. but theres a few peopel here in NC running them... i know when smoked tailights were the fad, peeps were getting pulled left and right for not being able to see the "reddish" reflection from about 300 feet away.. i assume the same law applies, so i would think not?

 

No can do according to federal law. All rear facing lights have to be red and all front facing lights have to be amber or clear, side markers have to be red past the rear half of the vehicle and amber from the center forward, the middle section is optional. In my old trailer dealin days i could quote these laws for ya and give ya the exact regulation page and paragraph to find it under but those days are long gone. The same laws apply to every licensed vehicle which includes trucks and trailers.

 

I never had any problems with clear tail lights as long as they turned red when they were illuminated and had a reflector in them. The problem was red bulbs would turn white after a few weeks and LED bulbs dont work well enough in the daylight. Now I have chrome/clear tail lights with a small red section in the middle that turns the whole light red when it's illuminated.

 

Thanks for the information I didn't think they were legal but i seen some and thought they looked awesome. The ones I looked at were clear and had red LEDs

 

Pretty sure there legal as long as they have a red reflector in them and the brake light is red, but turn signals can be amber. The lens itself can be clear or there wouldnt be cars coming that way from the factory.

 

As long as the light coming out of them is red all is good and not over a certain lumen amount.

These laws are so that in the dark other traffic can tell which way your direction of travel or at least facing long before they can see actually see the entire vehicle itself.
