Default Thickness to build a girdle

My friend is going to build a girdle for his 12v. I've seen guys use 5/8 and down to 1/4. Whats your thoughts on this? No metal has been machined yet.

I think when you get to the point of needing a block girdle on a 5.9 you are beyond most peoples experience level, mine for sure anyways.

I've only seen girdles used in high-rpm motors with insane HP (gassers). Never seen or heard of anyone using one on a diesel.....

just look for one online and see what the manufacturer uses
