Boy it was cold this morning here. -11C at sea level. I think there is something wrong with the car so I fired the truck this morning. It cranked over fine and the high idle came right on. Boy does that make a lot of noise.

I have 2 battery blankets and run them on the same system that my block heater is hooked to and they work fine in the cold moist air out here. I haven't needed them or the block heater yet though.

They sell a foam called Armaflex it's available in different sizes. It is very soft and used to insulate home furnaces against heat loss. That should fit between the tightest space. It's cheap compared with a blanket. It's good enough to improve the cranking ability.

Can you add one additional heater into a coolant hose? 1500W sounds much better to heat up the coolant!
A small plastic bottle with diesel should be enough to run the espar, they don't use more than 0.3liter to 0.5liter per heating process.

Dang, minus 30 °C thats really cold. Haven't had the fun to feel that cold in my life.

We've seen -20* below winter with at least a month of the same weather. Since I went with red top on my last diesel,I installed them on my '03. They have been the best cold weather starting battery I've own. But its 10* above and starting to snow,so maybe I'll get my new block heater installed before the next big freeze. I have to get it in the shop first!
