In need of Diesel Tech's!
Yeah, he's out to lunch...I'm not sure where he would have picked up that information from and why he's convinced it's correct, because it definitely isn't. Working on a rig for two years before school will be good on a resume as work experience. After graduating he'll be more likely to get hired having some ethic and experience...Working on a rig for two years after graduating will count as two years of job commitment, but too much of that will null his education as a tech...Proper experience is required after graduating from any program to make it worthwhile. If you hang around for too long after graduating working irrelevant jobs it'll be much harder to get a proper career in order.
About all rig hands can do to (motor hands in particular) is change the oil on them or other types of basic service. Anything more, and they bring out a mechanic. Even then, they may be able to help them, but are limited to handing them or cleaning up tools and the work area. I know, cause I once was a motor hand. Also, that's where I learned you let them idle for at least a quarter hour before you shut them down to allow the turbos to cool down. What can I say, I was driving them good ol' Oldsmobile 5.7 IDI's at the time.
