Default Autometer gauge issue

Well guys, i got 2 of the 3 gauges connected and have all the wiring run through the firewall for the last gauge. However...i went out and drove my truck to make sure everything worked, and my pyrometer will NOT go over about 210 deg. max., thats idling, when my foot is all the way to the floor or cruising, it never leaves that point. It also doesnt drop below about 150 when i shut the truck off, and the buggy that helped me install em said his drops to 0 when he shuts down. Im sure i have either a bad gauge or a bad sending unit. We double checked all connections and all are correct.

Any input for me guys? This really bums me out

Mine never goes to zero, even with the truck turned off. It almost sounds as if you have a problem with with the sender. I know this is going to sound like a dumb question, but did you shorten the wires between the gauge and sender? Just asking because this will cause problems too.

I got spare thermocouples and thermocouple readers laying around, so what I'd do to troubleshoot the problem may not be relevant... But yes, it's either the gauge, the sender or the wiring, and probably not the wiring.

My Autometer pyrometer went bad after a year; the motor in it was really jumpy. Sent it in to them, they sent back a brand new one with no charge. I didn't even send in a reciept with it.

So if there is a problem with the gauge, I would hope you have the same luck I had. I can see myself buying Autometer in the future.

You can rule out the wiring as long as you just left it like it was. Didn't cut it shorter to get rid of the excess.

If your buddy has a similar Autometer gauge, just swap gauges or senders. That'll rule out your problem fairly quickly.

i actually fixed the gauge problem. It ended up being a connection problem between the thermocouple connectors and yellow sheathed red and yellow wires where it connects under the hood to go to the gauge.
