Default Which diesel

Hi i am brand new to the forum and I am looking into purchasing my first diesel. I have done a lot of research and have narrowed it down to either a 2006 or 2007 chevy, or a 2004 or newer dodge cummins. My budget is around 20 grand it can be over but i would like to keep it close to 20. I will mainly be using this as a daily driver, i will not tow often and when i do it will be light. I will be getting a EFI live chip for whichever one i get, and i will want to eventually build it up to around 500 horses.

All of those are decent candidates. Time to start shopping around. Don't be in a hurry and don't be afraid to walk away from a "deal".

Depends on the vehicle, state of maintenance, elevation, etc. To many variables to give and exact answer but, if you have a block heater available it should be fine. That being said a lot of people do not use them in far colder temps than you will see. Just be ready for the smoke.

So as long as i have a block heater and let it warm up for a good amount of time both should be fine?
I also have herd that on certain dodge transmitions it is hard to find parts for, which one is that? And will that be a big problem 5 yesrs from now when i have to rebuild it?
