Glycol in Oil
Need help please ! I put an offer to purchase on a Trawler with twin Cummins 6BT5.9M Turbo's, 1988 with 2900 hrs. ea. Recent Oil Analysis showed Positive for Glycol ( 0.06 Abn. ) ? on fresh oil with only approx. 20 hrs. use, in one engine. How serious is this ? Should I walk from the deal ? ( Oil: Rottella 15 / 40 ) Thanks in advance.

Most oil analysis tests would consider this negligible. 0.06 parts per million (PPM) is very low one drop in a million in other words is 1.0 your reading is 91.5 times lower than that.
Most trucks and equipment will have 25, 50, 100 PPM of iron or copper and still be operating normal.
But Oil analysis is like trend monitoring the companies doing it look for jumps or changes in any parameter to clue them into hey we need to look at equipment number 5004.
Saves them down time in the long run.
hope this helps.
