Default Killer Dowel Pin

Hey guys,

I was recently going through my '92 12V Cummins and was just basically trying to clean everything up while I was also adding an air conditioning system and a few other accessories. While I was in there I thought I would try to address this Killer Dowel Pin (KDP) issue I've heard so much about so I mad a little metal tab that I fit under another bolt to hold it in (In the pic) and I just wanted to get your advice as to whether or not this will get the job done. It seems like a common sense solution, but I am pretty new to all this so I'm thinking some of you "Wise Sages" of the Diesel world might be able to help me out. Thanks in advance, Gary.

I prefer peening to tabbing. More secure:

I hate to sound stupid, but I don't know what that means. Yours looks like it has a ridge around it that mine doesn't have, I guess that would prevent using a tab anyhow.

No. people tabbing this block simply use a bent tab with a shoulder in it to fit. Still just another piece of metal in there liable to come loose.

He just took a hammer and punch and punched around the edge of the hole to make it impossible for the pin to fall out. Either way works just make sure to loctite all the bolts as they do loosen from vibration.

so this is a much better option than the "killer dowel pin fix" kits (like the one the guy i bought the truck from gave me with a tab and a bolt)?

so is this better only because it is cheaper or better because it is better?
