just installed the new ballbearing garrett gtp38r turbo.WOW very nice the power response is amazing it has a differnt power band now it comes on hard! im going to mess with the psi tomarro the most i could get was 30 psi. im gonna take up to 40 psi. the inlet is HUGE the kit came with a new one and it was a pain to get lined up but a little adjusting here and there(and bendin the damn bracket alittle helped)and it finally fit.i reused my turbos down pipe(banks)i just had major back surgery a year ago now im disabled(was a case tractor dealership mechanic)and it took me a litttle longer than it should have(about 3 hrs)and no air tools SUCKED but my arms needed to turn some wrenchs altho ill probally be in bed for the next 3 days the test drive was soooooooooooooooooo worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! all in all im down about 1700 dallors(replaced fuel drain valve and orings,exhaustbolts and gaskets,brake cleaner,rtv and about 50 dallors in fuel on my 2hr "test" drive. My wife noticed me smilling this evening and asked if i missed my truck(its been down for 2 months till i could save enuff dough for the garrett) HELL YES!!! I said damn i had to turn on my phone for light so i could find where the interior light was!its been that long! so i washed her and rubbed her down with a little carnuba wax and carressed some tire shine on her 39.5-16.50x20 inch pit bull rocker shoes then took her out on the town and filled her tank i even cried when i had to tuck her in and set her alarm for the night.Hell now im missing her i think ill go get a 30 pack at the store and celebrate a great day with the one who has my heart! You think my wife will mind sleeping in the truck with me tonight? She fall asleep on the couch next to me waiting to go to the bedroom but all i can think about is going for a drive. ill write more tomarro

You can play with the wastegate as much as you want, with stock injectors your not going to make 40psi...

 

What A/R housing did you get? I'm contemplating the 1.15 even though my truck is far from high performance...

 

ther NOT stock injectors they happen to be dp tuners 225 cc stage 2 HO injectors along with dp tuner f-5 and they redid the computer it also has a banks intercooler(water and alchol injection)and a banks down pipe(5inch) exhaust no muffler,bullydog intake,cold air kit,forged pistons,steel crank,the list goes on and on approx. 29,000 dollars in receipts(including labor) that i finally got from the previous owner so why did csipsd ASSUME i had stock injectors and if i only changed the turbo then why wont it be able to make 40 psi like the worn out one did that i just took off?

 

I might be in the wrong place but what happens if i install a gtp38 1.0 with stock injectors and no tuner??? will i see and improvement on my 7.3L 180K?

 

stock injectors and no tune means you'll probably be pumping a fair bit more air into it than you should be.

modern tuning can do some really amazing things so that you can add power in stages instead of needing to go whole hog at once.

I don't know just how badass that turbo is, but without a tune at least, you are probably gonna run a risk of either not spooling the turbo, or, leaning things out too much.
