YeeHaw,
I joined this site just for the answer to your question. Hands down the 7.3. I own both and every day i want to sell my 6.0. Its a 2001 F350 7.3 4x4 cc dually. The only service I have had done to it is a Trottle positioning sensor, and recently a cam positioning sensor. It is stock, no mod, has no tuners-pulls a 35' horse trailer with living quarters every weekend. This truck is the best. Also it is very easy to work on.
Yes the 7.3 has less torque and horsepower than the 6.0. For reliability you have to go with the 7.3. My 6.0 has been in the shop more months than i can count. My 6.0 only pull a flatbed toy trailer once in a while. My daughter is going to get the 6.0 soon. I'm going to use the old 7.3 as my daily driver till it dies. Hope this helps.

I have several friends with 6.0s or had them. They have had many issues including oil pumps (not a cheap fix). The motor has better off the line torque and was rated at higher horse than the 7.3. 5 Speed automatics as well I think.

I have blown 2 4R100 transmissions behind the 7.3, so if you buy an older unit with thde 7.3, I would recommend getting a beefy trans done on it.

Then and exhaust, intake and maybe a tuner makes the 7.3 very hard to beat.

Both my trucks get 13.5 MPG in city driving empty. I have gotten as good as 10MPG towing a 30 foot 5th wheel.

Good luck.

Make sure that you take you FORD advice from people that have or have had FORDs.

I've had both a 7.3 and a 6.0... Love em both...

The 4r100 behind the 7.3 is garbage until you build it...
Trans behind the 6.0 is a great trans

6.0 needs headstuds if you plan on putting extra power to it.
Headstud job for 6.0 and trans job for 7.3 will be similar in price

6.0 starts at 325 flywheel HP
7.3 start at 250 IIRC

if getting an 05-up they are a much nicer truck, coil suspension rides nicer. Interior is a bit nicer. Crew cab seat actually folds up and down. Better looking front end. And the 6.0 sounds a lot better IMO.

I very much prefer my 6.0 over the 7.3 truck that I had. Wish I would have kept the 7.3 truck around to so I could use if for beating on and offroading.

so basically what everyone is saying that both motors are very good, both have good power and both can be moded easily with tuners. the 7.3 has always been very reliable for me, never had any problems besides a cps, otherwise it's never let me down towing or with injectors or even glow plugs yet! Now the 6.0 can be very reliable too, but it seems like once you start using tuners and moding them they start to fall apart with turbo, head gasket, egr, and injector issues. but thats for some people, others have well over 100k on theirs with tuners and never have a problem.

so i would say for safety i would choose a 7.3, just because they're a known reliable motor, not saying 6.0's arent reliable, but you have a 50/50 chance of getting a one that's going to have problems. the 6.0 comes with more power out of the box but the 7.3 can easily be tuned to match that. you need to raise the cab on both trucks to install head studs, so really its your preference to what you wanna do, its just you probably wont have to put studs in a 7.3 unless you want to seriously dump some g's into it.

i have an 05' 6.0 intake, staight pipe exhaust, and tuner and knock on wood i haven't had any problems outta it yet 118K miles and it runs strong... i have the 6 spd in mine so no tranny problems here... the 6.0s are good engines if you keep up your maintenence and make sure you change your oil on time. with the tuner i don't have studs knock on wood again and i haven't had any head gasket problems yet and i have a pretty heavy foot.... and i love the interior and set up and feel of everything in the newer 05 and up models, and i have never owned one but have heard that the 7.3s are reliable and a good work horse... Just my 2 cents. hope you make the right choice in the ende

I have had a 02 F250 ext cab 4x4 w/the 7.3 great truck. My brother in law bought it from me and they use it to pull thier camper 31ft'r no problems yet from it and it has about 85-90k miles on it all stock. I currently have an 07 F350 CC SRW 4x4 w/the 6.0. I only have put about 18k miles on it so far (30k - ish total on truck) and so far have not had any issues, atleast not with the drivetrain gas tank is another issue but thats the dealer hosing it up . I can tell the 6.0 feels stronger then the 7.3 and have read it can make more power. The 7.3 uses the 4spd AT and the 6.0 has the 5spd AT, both run 3.73 gears. Gas mileage was about equal in them 15-18mpg average, of course the 6.0 being an F350 CC vs an F250 ext cab is a little heavier. Hope that helps some.

I have my mind set on an 05-06 F350 SRW CC. Thanks to all for their input. Now I just need to save some $$$$$ for upgrades and mods
