7.3 Vs 6.0 vs. 6.4 WHAT TO GET
#22
Think about this:
you find a 125k truck for 13k.
Drive to 400k and it dies an honorable and peaceful death
You've gotten and additional 275k out of it.
Even if you drive 20k a year (*above averages), it would take you 13.75 years to do it (over your 10 year window )
13.75 years =165 months = $7.60... cost per day (minus fuel/repairs, etc) to recover purchase price.
Now...manage to save $100.00/month over that same period and you've got a cool little $165k to buy something else (not including any interest you will accumulate over that period of tme)
...just a thought

You can find POS ( insert brand name here) of anything out there. You know your math and what you want to spend. If there was truly only ONE best of ANYTHING in the world we wouldn't have debates, World Series, Superbowls, Auto races or constant golf/tennis/et.al.tournaments. Just get what you like and have fun with it. I wish you the best of luck with whatever you choose.

I love my 7.3 and it has 233K miles on it. It runs better then it did when new. The GT38R and the twin pumps made a world of difference. I am still running the stock sticks
My dad has a 08 F-450 and it has had some problems with the radiator and the EGR. When the EGR went it took the engine with it so it got a new engine at 96K miles.
It has 160K on it now and is doing great. It has tons of power and will pull a house. When the warranty runs out a 200K the PDF is coming off and a mild programer is going on.

I've had all brands of cars and trucks (never a diesel though but that's why I'm here) and they've all had issues.
Fords scare the bejesus out of me due to recurring electrical problems. Every one I've had has had them
But I love the looks and the room of the F250-350.
I also like the look of the Dodge, but not the interior.
The Chevy, the interior but not the look.
Ford seems (for now) to have both the interior and the exterior that I'm looking for so that's the route I'm taking.
If it doesn't work out, I'll switch to another brand.
If I try them all and still don't have good luck, I'll go back to gas!
But to say one is better than another...I just don't see it.
I've trained/taught in the martial arts for a good portion of my life. This same BS debate rages on there too....there's no "1 best style."

I think that's the way I am going. My Wife told me she's ok with me going back to a 3/4 ton as long as I don't spend more then what I sell my tacoma for. ( and happy wife means a happy life) So I figure I can get a pretty decent 7.3 for under 17K. And probably more around 12-14K and still have the money to throw a few bucks into it.
The plus sides are that I can get the full crew cab & 8ft bed which I want, and it will still only have 125K miles on it. Which is nothing for that truck. So Pay a few bucks to get it detailed. Change out the radio to something more suiting, add some extra crap that i want, Linex, and intake, exhaust, and mild chip. Full fluid changes and I should have a truck that will cost what my tacoma did, but be much more capable.....

i hope you enjoy your ford. they are great trucks. the engine may not go quite as long as the cummins, but i have seen some 7.3's in the 500k mile range and never been rebuilt. i think you will be happy with the 7.3.. good luck!!!

That's what I am thinking. IT will end up costing me 17K, but I will have a truck that will go another 150K. And by time i get rid of it, they will have some new tech that will be awesome.
What kind of MPG are you getting out of your rig?
I will admit i was just looking at that mahindra midsixe truck coming to america soon. 30+mpg with a 2600lb payload seems awesome, but only has a tow capacity of 5000lbs. Which I don't tow that often but when I do its double that. Plus I don't trust a new car, in a new market, with no support behind it.
I was looking at the 6.0L but i don't trust them, and there is more to go wrong, the 7.3 is pretty strait foreward and can see 19 mpg, with the power i love, and the ability to do pretty much anything. If I can get 100K out of it I will be happy. Now I have to start the search.
