What is the VIN?

What else have you tested? Injection Control Pressure, Fuel pressure, etc?

I purchased a 99 ford cubevan last year and went on a long road trip signed up with CAA first. Everything was good for a while then( first diesel) 1-)I notice that there was no turbo whistling when I floored it to pass. 2-) when I would get to around a 110 km/ph it felt as if the engine/tranny was off or a neutral feeling and looking in the rear view there would be a big plume of smoke I would let of until the speed was just under 100Km/ then return to about a 100Km/ I calculated that I was getting about 18mpg. my questions are 1-)would the van run if the turbocharger was dead? if so 2-) can someone point out what the reason for the smoke at the higher speed?// I'm leaning that the turbo is shot I see that they are very expensive, I got a line on a used 95 3-)would it fit? 4-) are they hard to RnR

1--van would run but have very low power, especially right out of the gate; 2--what color is the smoke?; 3--It will not fit, and no they are not difficult to change. I'm not certain the turbo is your problem and don't have enough info to even point you in the right direction.

With respect to power it doesn't set you back in the seat but for the size it seems not too bad. But on startup there's is absolutely no power what so ever, I must wait about a half hour before I can even place it in gear.

The smoke seem to be similar to a gas engine with blown oil rings but like I said it's very thick and simultaneously a neutral type loss of power and extreme greyish smoke until the vehicle slows to under 100kph then I can step on it again but once I get to around 110kph the event is going again but going uphill MT I've got to drop to second

what is the aprox. price for a replacement turbo? and how long in shop time to RnR it? the vehicle is sitting in Niagara Falls Ont. and I'm in Regina Sask. I would like to get it here so that I can go to work with it. I'm getting poorer as time lapses without work so I'm trying to get ready to get this repair ready for when I can go there in late Nov.

I would also like to thank you Mike for your help with my problem this take a lot of stress of the unknown from mindplay

It sounds like the EBP butterfly may be sticking. I need more info. Do you have any fault codes?

Hi Mike,

I have a 2008 6.4 450 and I was wondering about the "cleaning exhaust" feature on the truck. If the truck is used all day long, what would be an acceptable amount of time the exhaust cleaning should be running during one cycle and how many cycles during the day as well?

Thanks for your input Mike.
