Early 99 F350 7.3l Powerstoke Broken 350K miles
Hello,
I have an early 99 (man date before 12 of 98) 7.3l that has been giving me the run around for sometime. It started with a fuel knock and after a few tests it was determined that my #4 injector was bad and #8 cylinder was weak. So I replaced #4 and #8 injectors along with my under valve cover harness. The knock is was still there maybe worse. So I took it to our local for dealer for more testing.
I got a call this afternoon that says everything checks out ok electronically and when we disconnect the #4 the knock goes away a little. We can tear into it further but it will cost you about $800 for us to continue our diagnosis. We think you may have a bent rod. The push rods and valves are all ok.
I am not a mechanic by any stretch but a farm guy from Indiana so I am pretty handy. Any thoughts on what I can do to check it out without taking the entire motor out. If not I can buy a 7.3 out of a 2000 for pretty cheap. Will one swap out with the other? Or do you have to upgrade everything to 2000 year parts.
Sorry for the long post. I am at my wits end and not in a position to buy a new truck. Thank you in advance for all the help.
