Default Does anyone know a good diesel tech school

Hey guys,
So I am and active duty marine and I've spent the majority of the last 6 years deployed. I'll be getting out soon and I'm trying to find a good diesel mechanic school to go to. I've been reading some reviews but i was wondering if anyone here had any advice. I am from Colorado and I would like to stay relatively close to there since I plan on looking for work in either Colorado or Wyoming. Thanks.

Don't waste your money. I went to wyotech and it was one of the worst decisions I have made. Find a shop to hire you as a floor sweep or something and work your way up. Save yourself 35k

Ya man I've heard nothing but bad things about WyoTech, but I have a buddy who went to UTI and got a job with cummins, so if I had to choose right now I'd probably go that way. However, I'm searching around for an apprentice program to try and get into, but I'm finding it's harder to do than I thought since I realistically have minimal diesel mechanic knowledge since all I've really done is mods to my truck and basic maintenance. I'm looking to try and apprentice at a mine somewhere because I've heard they pay their mechs really well.

I also went to wyotech. Talked with guys that checked out uti and nashville auto diesel. Nothing good was said about any of them. They do teach you stuff and you get to use the most expensive tools and equiptment available but I have yet to work any where that had that kind of equiptment so you always have to learn about how the shop you are working in equiptment works. Deff. better off just starting at the bottom and working up put the 35 plus thousand dollars youll spend at one of those schools towards tools youll be way ahead of the game. If you really want to go to a school go to a community college that offers a diesel program will be way cheaper.

check out the ford asset/AAA program otherwise don't waste money on these schools that will teach 1980s technology and just work your way up in a qualified shop and get real world expirience

Kind of a haul, but Alexandria MN has a great diesel program, had friends go there, they have a deal with zigler cat to get you a job when you graduate. Heard nothing but good was going to go there myself.

Depends on what you want to go for..OSU-Okmulgee in Oklahoma has a compressor mechanic course that is around probably 20k and I can bet you'll get a job in ND Wyoming some where in there makin some good money..just a thought.

I went to Suny Morrisville in Ny and personally it wasnt worth it for me. Learned just as much hands on as I did behind a desk. Chasing the tail around that college was fun tho...

Im in colorado and I went to Trinidad State Junior College for the Diesel Program. I learned the basics to things, and my job has been more than willing to teach me what I need to know. I work on the big trucks now. But you can also get your AA or AS along with a certificate and it cost way less than 30 grand. But Other than that buy tools for the trade and be willing to learn. Thanks for the service. Also Caterpillar in denver has an apprentice program their to but they will make you get an associates at the least. But a guy at our shop who sweeps floors got in the program.

I hate Cummins ISX what the hell were they thinking??? But love cummins ISL
