Default Motor oil

Ok just added mods to the 04, F-250, 6.0L, 60k miles, added Airrade cold air intake, 5" Magnaflow exhaust, and the Edge super chip-set, and now I'm to the point I need to change the oil out.

I like synthetic, and have it in all the rest of my vehicles; Royal purple is what I use in the rest, but because this is my first diesel I'm not sure it's appropriate for this application.

What is the best oil to use to make sure I get the most out of the mods and the best protection for the engine?

All I use is Motorcraft 15-40 $18 for the 5 quart @ Walmart. And I buy my filters from Ford(oil is $11) for my 7.3. I do like the mobile 1 synthetic, or Valvoline 5-40 synthetic.

I am considering investing in a General Use Dual Remote Oil Bypass Unit, it claims to extend the oil life to 20k. Is anyone using this type of unit? Does it work? Worth the $$?

The issue in a 6.0 is not keeping the oil clean, the issue is the engine just shears the crap out of oil. I never go more than 5k miles on my changes. You can probably go 7500 safely, with a good synthetic.

I use Rotella T6 as well in my 6.0 and my TDI.

Royal Purple... the most expensive part about that is the purple dye in it. No thanks!

Word of warning... lose the Edge unit. Go SCT with custom tuning. The Edge is a transmission destroyer.

Welcome to DB! Stop on down to the 6.0 section sometime! See you around!

Just be sure to not add any additives in the 6.0, they had issues with the injectors not working correctly because of oil additives. the oil would not go through the injector fast enough with the additive to allow the injector to open the way it should and it would cause injector failure. At least it would on the 03 and 04 injectors. had a hell of a time with my 03 until i found that out.

Bypass can extend your intervals but with the issues mentioned you would better off testing your oil to see how well it performs for you.
