Default 6.9l needs to be strokin

i have a 02 7.3 psd with a hole in piston 6 and before i bought it the bottom end had antifreeze in the oil for a long time . long story short i also have a 6.9 idi and would like to hope that the similarities would alow me to combine them .so yup you read right i would like the 6.9 idi in my 02 f350 with the turbo. the question is can i do it , i have tools and lots of gas engine knowlegde but never worked with diesel before and dont really want to rebuild a 7.3 . any help ??

i dont think youll be able to with a 6.9 unless you kept it all stock form just added a turbo but i dont know how all your electronics and all would mesh with that mechanical beast...

i read somewhere that because 6.9 and 7.3 are basicly the same block i could use the heads/intake/turbo from the 7.3 and put them on the 6.9 and be all good. my problem is my bottom end is no good and i just happen to have a 6.9 and dont really wanna just stick it in there stock.

all the IDI's, 6.9, 7.3 non turbo, and 7.3 turbo, non power stroke are mechanical injection. why don't you want to rebuild the 7.3?

time and money but mostly money and i already have the 6.9. my 7.3 is a turbo powerstroke and from what i hear they are a more weak platform to build on. but on the other hand it does only have 40,000mi on the block, so i may consider replacing main bearings and piston #6 and gaskets. i dunno i just want to drive it.

So your hoping to put the rotating assembly and heads, valve train and induction system out of a PSD 7.3? So if your going to put the rotating assembly in your going to need to bore out the 6.9 block anyways so why not just rebuild on the 7.3 block you have.

Cause you can't just slap a pair of 7.3 heads and turbo on a 6.9 short block and think it will work. Two totally different set ups, a mechanical distributor pump vs. Heui, IDI (compress ratio of 20 or so to 1 for the IDI vs. 17ish:1 for the PSD etc etc

The cheaper option would be to rebuild the 7.3, find a junk yard engine or part out the truck IMHO.
