Default need to increase torque

i haul about 5 + tons on the weekends north Carolina is very hilly and my truck allways seems to have a problem with hills the motor runs like a champ but it seems like theres not enough torque to haul more weight .

i was considering putting in bigger rear gear

anyone else had this problem?

Gears would help. I would also ditch the Edge and get a custom tune from PHP. It will help with the power and lower your temps.

I would not dick with the gears...

Add some power via turbo, injectors and tuning changes.

I would say either, if not BOTH the solutions would help. Lower gears would help towing in the hills, but would be expensive and make DD mpg miserable.

Turbo/injectors/tuning would be expensive...but certainly would add power.

No, but custom tunes are your best bet. I have PHP's Phoenix chip....$300....but there are many others, Swamps, Tony Wildman, Beans, Cales, I'm sure I'm forgetting a few.

im running gearhead tunes on my chip and love em. depening on what youve got done to your trans he can use different tunes for more power (torque in this case)

i may be wrong in thinking this so dont use this idea till someone smart says it will work but wouldnt a TQ help to. since it would let you lay the power to the ground. given it depends on what you already have in your trans (i.e. if you already have a triple disc theres not much room for improvement)

I actually got about the same mileage with my (80E) economy tune as I did in my (100 Perf) Performance tune. Keep in mind I am an aggressive driver with a heavy foot, but I run on my 100 Perf tune 99% of the time. I just like the giddy-up and go and the firm shifts better.

I average about 16mpg (Speedo is corrected) with 315-75-16E tires on my leveled f-350 4x4. (3:73 Gears.)

Best so far with this setup was just south of 18mpg highway. Not bad for a 8,000 lb 4x4.

i have PHP on mine, stock, 65 tow, 80 DD, 65 performance, 100 performance, and 1,100 high idle. my mileage depends on speed. if i do 75 i get about 12. if i drop down to 65 i've seen as high as 18.5. i would like to try either swamps or beans. but i haven't had ny problems with mine. the only thing i don't like about them, is the performance tunes are pretty smokey. but the tow tune is great!
