Depending on when the pan was last dropped that's not unusual. Keep in mind about half of that is the magnet itself, its about 2" or bigger around.

Clean it up and show everyone the size of the mag that is in there.

I did clean it and put it all back together... should have taken a pictures of just the magnet... on the great side I ran the truck for almost 300 miles today from an elevation of 44oo ft to close to 7000 and back and averaged 19 mpg where as before I was only getting 17... guess the valvoline Max mercon fluid does help!

Valvoline max mercon? You mean Maxlife Dex/Merc?

And yikes that magnet was working over time, how old is the fluid?

yes it was valvoline maxlife dex/merc...
I bought the truck in 2010 and the dealer said something about the previous owner having the transmission rebuilt not to long ago... but would not go into details or say anything else... I tried to write the previous owner but he never responded... this is why I got a great deal on the truck back then...

The transmission shop I took it to said that the programmer (edge evolution) was partially at fault... that the stock tranny will not last long even on the 50hp setting... of which I have heard about the same on here....

the point I was trying to make about the elevation was that I was climbing hills where as the 17mpg was more or less on level grounds... more testing is in order!
